What are you doing with our data?

WhatsApp got a big fine – it was just slapped with a USD 267 mln fine by the European Union for violating its privacy rules.

That’s expensive! What is that rule?

It’s the EU’s privacy law General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – one of the strictest privacy laws in the world. In one word, it overlooks how companies collect and use personal info.

In 2018, WhatsApp was accused of being not transparent on how it shares user data with its parent Facebook… The regulator concluded that they didn’t tell EU citizens how their personal information was used.

So they gave WhatsApp a huge fine of USD 267 mln. This is the second-largest fine under GDPR 💸

Did WhatsApp say anything?

We’re going to appeal 😠 as it claims the penalties are too much, and that WhatsApp has been transparent with its information. Yea… who will be happy after being fined 🙂

+ This is not the only trouble. Remember the WhatsApp privacy policy update earlier in Jan.? It asked us to agree to the new policy which may share our user information with other Facebook apps. It’s also facing disputes on that… so the policy has been delayed, till now.
